None of us wants to believe what you are experiencing right now, to be real, or in our own country. Out television sets have filled our comfortable homes with images of human suffering for as long as any of us can remember. It was almost always, somewhere in the world, just not here. Somehow that made it bad, but not immediately painful. We cannot understand your pain in this (frigid) hour. We cannot match your outrage, as we ourselves have not experienced the world out of control that you face. It is the unity with which your messages of defiance’s and true patriotism, that speaks most loudly. Your injustice is our injustice, and yet we watch on television, while you stand arm in arm in the subzero temperatures, united in righteousness. May your local struggle, our national crisis, demonstrate that we the people possess the power that we only lease to those in office. Ours is the true strength of this experiment in Democracy, and you are its example.
