The old world is burning so a new one can be born. Minneapolis, I love you. I love your spirit, I love your Indigenous people, I love the fierceness with which your organizers across identities are protecting and defending you. I love the generational spirit of resistance you hold. I love you, and I’ve been praying for you, for all of us. I love and miss your organizing communities, and I pray for everyone who is showing up, everyone who is burnt out from doing this work for years, everyone who is afraid and exhausted, and everyone who is just now awakening and doing something. It is never too little, it is never too late. In the midst of fear, of worrying for everyone’s safety out there, I recognize that 15-20 years ago we couldn’t have dreamed that Minneapolis would hear thousands of people chanting “f*ck 🧊!” or “🧊 go home!” That means something. May that spirit grow and expand and serve us well as we see the current structures crumble down until they are nothing but a bitter chapter in history. Let the new world come in.
