As an American who has been living abroad, it has been heartbreaking to watch what has been going on in my home country and feel so helpless to do anything about it from so far away. Knowing that there are people are working to help, support, and protect American citizens, immigrants, and our constitutional rights gives me hope that all is not lost and that the US can become the place that it has purported to be: a place where everyone is welcome and everyone can live freely. If you ever have moments of doubt, despair, or overwhelm: you are doing something invaluable. Even though I do not know your names or faces, I am so grateful that you are doing what you are doing. People like you still allow me to think of America as home, even though I do not at present feel safe or welcome there.
