I came to this country as an immigrant with nothing to my name. This country gave me everything I have, and I gave it my all too. Watching the anti-immigrant, anti-LGBTQ rhetoric unfold in the last few years has been difficult. America had broken my heart, but that just means I loved her hard. Minnesotans, your sense of community and justice, your guts, your common sense and your humor, your unity, pride and devotion to the promise of the United States have filled my heart with love and hope. The whole world is watching as you fight at the front lines to save decency and democracy. You are the best of America. RIP Renee and Alex, you are American heroes.
